Carbon Tax South Africa 2020 Impact

After almost a decade in the works, South Africa's new carbon tax was signed into law in 2019. Carbon tax in South Africa - No longer just hot.

The first phase has a carbon tax rate of R120 per ton of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. Carbon tax will be levied on the sum of greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion, industrial processes, and fugitive emissions, determined in accordance with a reporting methodology approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs.

A carbon tax is a tax levied on the carbon content of fuels, generally in the transport and energy sector.
